With deeply personal tunes leaning into self-described “alternative soul,” Matt Xavier cites his musical inspirations as “girls, alcohol, heretics, and general mischief.” Upon listening to his recently released 2019 album, Good Nite, you can hear an interweaving of early 2000’s rock and acoustic grit – as if dancing between acoustic tunes of Sublime, soulful piano ballads reminiscent of Radiohead and Tom Waits, plus sad-boi Gorillaz vibes. Xavier’s sound is soulfully unpredictable, leaving surprises at the turn of every corner. On his writing process, he noted, “My favorite thing about writing music is that there’s no rules – it’s just better leave the blood and tears in your notebook and leave the sweat on stage.” Come see for yourself.

The Okays are a group of local Walnut Creek dads brought together by the common interest of music, tapping into the sounds of The Oh Sees, The Stooges, and Tom Petty. Member Neel Bhatia explained the name behind the group. He said,“Not too long after our first garage jam, we found that we all had different musical interests, but secretly loved the idea of figuring out a way of putting our influences into something that we can say we created and would want to listen to ourselves. We were all rusty and out practice when we first met, so our goal was to at least sound ‘Okay.’(hence the name)” The band in its entirety is comprised of Neel Bhatia, Chris Chenault, Mike Schnier, and Doug Home. “If you see us play,” concluded Bhatia, “hopefully you’ll think we’re okay.”
